Happy International Women's Day
As we celebrate International Women’s Day today, I want to take this opportunity to talk about women in domestic violence.
My theme is Behind Closed Doors.
What goes on behind closed doors from a personal perspective. An abused woman lives in fear, unable to predict when the next attack will come. She may become very isolated from friends and family, and increasingly dependent on her abuser. In this circumstances, it can be very hard to make sense of what is really happening. Over the time her self-esteem may be worn down. She may start to believe her abuser’s insult. She may blame herself for the abuse, or deny that it is taking place. She may ignore it hoping that her partner, the man she loves will change. Abused woman often experience conflicting emotions, such as fear, anger, shame, resentment, sadness and powerlessness. They are not weak, they are submissive victims. Women suffering domestic violence adopt all kinds of coping strategies to survive each day.
Domestic violence is a crime. It can happen to anyone. Therefore, we all have a role to play in bringing domestic violence to an end.
A woman with a voice is by definition a strong woman. But the search to find the voice can be remarkably difficult. -Melinda Gates.
I wish all women a beautiful life as you are the same. Be the one the one you have always dream of. Wishing you a happy women’s day.
