Principles of Good Governance: Inductions for New Governors at LA Schools and Academies

I am pleased to have attended the Principles of Good Governance: Inductions for New Governors at LA Schools and Academies training course today 12/11/2022.

Being a school governor at the Cabot Primary School is incredible important to me as I see a huge role for BAME parents to be actively involved in their local schools.

Just 8% of school governors and trustees say they are from an black or ethnic minority background, according to a new report. It has been identified that the best way to challenge schools to up their game in terms of race equality was to have more BAME governors. Students need to see themselves in their governors, and people who’ve gone through similar experiences to them, and I believe that by doing so we can create better informed decisions from the top down as school governors.

The role of the board is to provide strategic leadership for the school or schools it’s responsible for.

I urge members of my SLEBA community and the wider BAME community in Bristol to consider volunteering for these incredible roles as school governors and trustees.
